SomnoSeal Turns One: A Special Offer

Today marks a very special occasion – the first anniversary of SomnoSeal! Today, I'll share with you my personal story and the inspiration behind creating this innovative device.

The story of SomnoSeal began with a deep sense of frustration. As a sleep medicine provider, I was disheartened by the struggles of my mouth-breathing patients who desperately wanted to use CPAP but couldn’t tolerate full-face masks or chin straps. I’ll never forget the day a patient came to me, having strapped a Maxi pad over her mouth to prevent air leaks! That was the moment I knew something had to change.

Driven by this need, I applied for a Biomedical Innovation grant from my university, OHSU, and was overjoyed to receive it in 2018. The journey from there was filled with collaboration, innovation, and perseverance – not to mention a pandemic! Working alongside skilled engineers, we experimented with various designs, ultimately opting for simplicity and functionality, which led to the creation of the SomnoSeal. We took feedback seriously, developed different sizes, and finally, launched it one year ago.

The fact that SomnoSeal has not only survived but thrived in its first year is something that still amazes me. I was uncertain about a small business making its mark in the vast world of CPAP accessories. And, along this journey, I’ve also had the pleasure of collaborating with sleep dentists. I’ve learned from them about how the SomnoSeal helps with tolerability of oral appliances, furthering the impact SomnoSeal has had on improving the lives of patients with sleep apnea.
